Meridian Hall opened in 1960 (as the O’Keefe Centre) with the world premiere of the Lerner and Loewe musical Camelot. It was renamed the Hummingbird Centre in 1996, and then became the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in 2007. It underwent extensive restoration and renovations beginning that year and reopened in 2010 fifty years to the date of the original opening night performance. The theatre (renamed Meridian Hall in September of 2019) is the largest soft-seat auditorium in Canada, seating 3191 on three levels: orchestra, mezzanine and balcony.

LAYOUT SEATING NOTES READER REVIEWS “Row C, Seat 28. Amadeus Live. I had an excellent view of the movie screen from this seat, and was close enough to also have a good view of the orchestra.” “Row J. Seat 63. This was a great seat! The acoustics were fabulous for a concert.” “Row P. I had a good overall view of the stage from here, the seat was comfortable and the sound was good, but I felt pretty far away from the stage, especially for the price I paid for the seat. I couldn’t really see the performer’s facial expressions from here.” “Row Z. I’m not very tall but because the theatre is so well raked, I could see clearly even from the back.” “If you’re tall, the legroom is totally inadequate.” LAYOUT READER REVIEWS “Row CC, Seat 65. Canada All Star Ballet Gala. I had an excellent overall view of the ballet, although because it is such a large theatre the mezzanine is farther back than in smaller theatres, which means you won’t be seeing facial expressions from here. This level is well raked (sloped) so there was no problem seeing over the people ahead of me.” “We sat in the mezzanine for a film-with-live-orchestra presentation and we could see and hear the orchestra and movie clearly.” LAYOUT READER REVIEWS “Row A, Seat 42. I had a good, unobstructed overview of the stage from the first row. My seat was comfortable and the sound was excellent.” “Row L. It’s a long way to the stage from here so the view wasn’t great, but the acoustics were still excellent.”
